Transportation Toolkit Red Team Review (forum is now closed)

Welcome!

Thank you for agreeing to participate in the Red Team Review process for the Leadership Academy. A Red Team is a group that challenges and gives feedback about a product in order to improve it. Reviewers take the perspective of a skeptical user to identify gaps and prevent oversights. We are looking forward to receiving your constructive feedback on the Transportation Toolkit. Your feedback will help us improve the quality, clarity, readability and usability of the document.

We invite you to engage in this online dialogue in the following ways:

  1. Share your high-level feedback by answering the questions that have been posed.
  2. Sketch out suggested illustrations, designs and layouts, and then upload them (note: this platform allows you to upload files including jpg, gif, png).
  3. Comment on high-level feedback provided by other Red Team Reviewers.

This online dialogue provides an interactive 24-hour-a-day forum for those selected as Red Team Reviewers to offer feedback on the Transportation Toolkit.

  1. We encourage you to submit high-level feedback on the document whenever it is most convenient for you, between now and Sunday, November 6th at 3pm Eastern.
  2. We also hope that you will check back regularly during the four days of this dialogue to review and comment on other Reviewers’ feedback. We hope that interaction between Reviewers will strengthen and focus the feedback.

Purpose of the Transportation Toolkit

Secretary Foxx wants this Toolkit to demystify the transportation decision-making process for members of the public who are interested in making a difference in their communities but may not know how to do so. The document should: de-code transportation acronyms and jargon; provide clear, simple text and graphical explanations of complex processes; and encourage the reader to participate in local, regional and state transportation decision-making processes.

Instructions

As you review the draft Toolkit, please keep these things in mind:

  • This document is a working draft, not for distribution at this time.
    • Within a very short time, USDOT staff crowdsourced content for the Toolkit by engaging internal and external stakeholders in working sessions, and then quickly drafted this Toolkit.
    • Once we incorporate internal and external feedback – including yours – an improved version of the Toolkit will be posted on Transportation.gov in mid-December. At that time, we will encourage individuals and organizations across the US to download the Toolkit and share with their communities. Your input is important to preparing the Toolkit for its nationwide debut.
  • Review the Toolkit from the perspective of the intended user: an emerging community leader who has limited experience in transportation decision-making processes, yet wants to increase transportation equity, break down existing transportation barriers and prevent new barriers from being built.
  • Offer constructive criticism and propose specific solutions that will make this Toolkit a practical, engaging resource for members of the public.
  • Your comments will be advisory to USDOT as we edit and improve the Toolkit. Due to time and resource limitations, we will prioritize must-have feedback for incorporation into this version of the Toolkit and save other feedback for the next version.

Group norms

Please help to create a safe, respectful space in this virtual room.

  • Please provide direct, honest feedback that is also respectful and polite.
  • This is a moderated dialogue open to those who have received an invitation.
    • Throughout the dialogue, USDOT moderators will monitor the threads and pose probing and clarifying questions and to structure and focus the discussions and to ensure that everyone is engaging in respectful, productive, on-topic dialogue.
  • Please focus on the Toolkit. Refrain from engaging each other in philosophical and political debates and advocating for Federal policies and programs.
  • While we welcome criticism, USDOT will delete any comments that include personal attacks, slurs or offensive language.

We very much appreciate your participation in this interactive feedback process. Thank you for helping us to create an even better resource for communities!
