New GM cars have 'driver attention assist' feature that detects drowsy driver. The 'attention alert' feature detects driver's eyes are off the road. What will be new and different in this project?

The intent, especially with Phase II goals, is to correlate/combine things like what you describe (perhaps with greater visual angle precision with regard to eyetracking) with external sensing, to inform an estimate of driver responses to, or awareness of, changes in the driving environment (e.g., traffic, hazards).
