1. It is intended to serve as an optional addition to current training curriculums, which emphasizes the importance of the SMEs.
2. The intent is for the student to apply what they have learned from the current training on a virtual drug-impaired subject so they can observe signs and symptoms associated with drug impairment. -

Ideally the training will be presented to officers who have experience with traffic safety and impaired driving investigations. The hope is that the system is available for career-long learning, however, its use will ultimately be decided by the consumer (LE agency).

For this project, we are interested in new training tools to assist law enforcement in identifying the complex range of behaviors, signs, and symptoms an individual (post stop) may exhibit while impaired by substances other than, or in addition to alcohol.

The developed training should be consistent with the most current law enforcement trainings related to drugged driving enforcement (ARIDE/DRE). Therefore, identified SMEs with a working knowledge of these curricula (such as DREs or DRE state coordinators) are ideal.

Applications should be related to impaired driving and training law enforcement on the specific signs and symptoms observable during a drug impaired driving investigation.
For phase 1 we would like to have the course design document for the interactive training technology. Additionally we would expect to know the technological approach and software and hardware requirements.
This will include a detailed plan for the development of the software files for a wide variety of virtual drivers (vary by age, gender, race, ethnicity) that can be displayed as under the influence of various impairing drugs, combinations of drugs, and control subjects.
