    Yes, this is allowed, but it is suggested that all parties in the affected teams be fully aware of these different roles/relationships.

    Nothing in the Challenge rules prohibits a participant from filing
    a provisional or nonprovisional patent application on any
    inventions embodied in their submission. It should
    be noted that in accordance with the Challenge agreement, all
    participants have agreed to license the U.S. Department of
    Transportation the right to publicize participant’s submission in
    any media, worldwide, including the right to copy, distribute,
    publicly display and publicly perform any copyrighted parts of a
    participant’s submission, including software.

    Rohit: Participants can utilize intellectual property developed prior to this Challenge as a part of their submission. More details can be found in the Challenge Statement - see Rules section under "Intellectual Property of Submissions."

    While the Inclusive Design Challenge is focused on passenger cars that can travel at highway speeds, many components that apply to shuttles could also apply to passenger cars and are welcome to submit a proposal.
