Is there a set list of training requirements for an individual to be considered qualified to serve as the CSO?
FTA has not established safety training requirements for Chief Safety Officers (CSOs) of bus-only agencies. While not required, FTA encourages bus safety personnel to voluntarily participate in its safety certification training program. You can learn more about this program here: https://bit.ly/2NokcKE. However, FTA has established federal requirements for the certification and training of State Safety Oversight Agency (SSOA) personnel and contractors who conduct safety audits and examinations of rail transit systems and rail transit agency personnel and contractors who are directly responsible for safety oversight. These requirements are defined in the Public Transportation Safety Certification Training Program (PTSCTP) Final Rule (49 C.F.R. Part 672), available here: https://bit.ly/2q2qMi6.
