Two questions on EOT/HOT device desired requirements
Two questions on the EOT/HOT technology, current and projected:
1) How much data is communicated between EOT and HOT devices? Is there anticipated increase in the amount of data to be communicated with next gen EOT and HOT devices?
2) What is the allowable service interval for proposed EOT devices (including, but not limited to, battery replacement)?

FRA Program Managers believe that HOT/EOT devices transmit information such as air pressure, battery life, communication status, emergency brake requests, and location; although this may be an incomplete or inaccurate list. It would be important that the solicitor partner with experts in the field, such as railroads, to ensure technical knowledge and abilities are sufficient to successfully complete the project. Once source of information may be the NTSB Docket for Accident Number RRD19FR001, specifically the "Train Telemetry Group Analysis Report" found at this link: https://data.ntsb.gov/Docket/?NTSBNumber=RRD19FR001
Federal Requirements for inspection, testing and maintenance can be found under "Two-Way EOT" sections of Title 49 CFR Part 232 Subpart E. AAR and Railroads may have more restrictive requirements.
